Online Reiki and the Reiki Symbols
Traditional Reiki uses three main symbols and the addition of a fourth at the master level. There is a lot of information about Reiki online. Reiki has evolved over the years and there are new symbols appearing along with the types of Reiki. Reiki online sites provide information about the Usui or traditional Reiki symbols and this article provides an overview of their meaning. Reiki online resources also provide information about the new Reiki symbols that have evolved more recently.

The first traditional Reiki symbol is called Cho Ku Rei and this symbol brings power to you. It is translated as “Put all the power of the universe here”. This Reiki symbol is used at the beginning of every treatment and it serves to boost the Reiki energy flow. To concentrate the energy to a specific area, the symbol can be drawn or visualized. Practitioners of Reiki also use the symbol at the end of a treatment to close and seal the energy.

The second traditional Reiki symbol is called Sei He Ki. This symbol corresponds to emotional healing or mental distress. It translates as “God and humanity become one”. In the treatment of emotional, mental problems and addictions, this symbol allows blockages in these areas to be removed. It can be of great use when treating stress, fear, and more. Remember physical problems are usually associated with an emotional or mental source. Reiki practitioners believe that through the treatment of emotional causes of distress, physical ailments may also be treated.

The third traditional Reiki symbol is called Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen. This symbol is the distance symbol. It is translated as “May the Buddha in me connect to the Buddha in you to promote harmony and peace”. This symbol can be used to conquer distance in providing a Reiki treatment. This Reiki symbol’s use enables you to send Reiki treatments to an individual that is far away from you. This is a powerful Reiki symbol and not taught to students until the second level.

The final symbol in the Usui Reiki is the Master symbol; it is called the Dai Ko Myo. This Reiki symbol is passed to the student that is studying to become a Reiki Master. It translates as “Great being of the universe shine on me, be my friend”. It serves to intensify the Reiki energy, making you the most effective that you can be. Your connection to the universal energy is strengthened, and it also increases the intensity of the other symbols.

The traditional Reiki symbols are a powerful part of the Reiki treatments. They are passed on to the student of Reiki by the Reiki masters as the students study and move up in the atonement process. These symbols are not to be taken lightly and the Reiki online sources cannot provide you with all the information you need to use the symbols. You need to take a Reiki course from a Reiki master to fully understand the symbols. Reiki online information about Reiki courses is also available.

The traditional Reiki symbols are not the only Reiki symbols as Reiki has grown and expanded to include others, and the descriptions and translations provided in this article are only meant to provide you with a feeling of the power and excitement that awaits your journey to become a Reiki practitioner and hopefully a Reiki Master. Like all journeys you must take the first step and begin studying.

The Symbols Of Reiki

By Dr. Mark Clayson

The Western style of Reiki teachings is focused on the use of symbols or shirushi (Japanese) to convey the Reiki energy to the person being healed. It is said that in Mikao Usui’s original teachings he did not employ the use of these symbols. He did, however, bring the symbols into Reiki when he taught the three naval officers his techniques, one of who was Dr. Hayashi, supposedly because they were having difficulty understanding how to transmit energy on a spiritual level and Usui procured the symbols to help them grasp this concept. These symbols were further developed by Hayashi in his spiritual teachings after Usui’s death.

In Western Reiki, the symbols are used as ‘keys’ to the Reiki practitioner. The practitioners intuition must be developed and, using his or her hands guided by energy, either to fixed positions on the body or intuitively ‘scanning’ to the body to be healed. The Reiki ‘Masters’ are attuned to the symbols and use these symbols to invoke Universal Life Force Energy, vibration and cosmic or celestial energy that flows through the practitioner into the body to be healed.

SYMBOL 1- CHO KU RAY (Pronunciation “choh-koo-ray”)

Alias: “The Power Symbol”

This Symbol is used to focus Reiki on a specific location, drawing energy from around the practitioner for a specific intent. It is used an all-purpose symbol and may be used as a seal or amulet for protection. Practitioners use this symbol to cleanse negative energies, on food, drink or material possessions. This symbol can be used in conjunction with other Reiki Symbols for further empowerment and to seal energies after the treatment is given.

SYMBOL 2- SEI HEI KI (Pronunciation: say-hay-key)

Alias: The Mental/Emotional Symbol

This Symbol is utilized primarily for the treatment of mental and emotional issues, calming the mind and for the treatment of addictions. Also employed in treating stress, anxiety, fear, depression and nervousness. It can help to cleanse and heal past traumas or emotional blockages. It removes bad vibrations and negative energies, to balance the left and right brain, for psychic protection and to deprogram inappropriate behavior as well as programming positive habits.

Sei Hei Ki restablishes emotional balance and harmony.

SYMBOL 3- HON SHA ZE SHO NEN (Pronunciation: Hanh-shah-zay-show-nen)

Alias: The Distance Symbol

Meaning: “Correct Thought /(Correct Mindfulness) is the essence of being” or “Right consciousness is the root for everything

This symbol is made of 5 kanji characters making up HSZSN.

It is used to send Reiki ‘at a distance’ to people, animals, places, situations or events. It is also used to send Reiki across the idea of time as we know it. Using this symbol, the practitioner sends Reiki to situations that have passed and/or events that have not yet happened. This symbol can also be used to assist interaction with spirits of place, ancestry, ancestry energy patterns or deity.

In some forms of Reiki, this symbol is understood to represent the idea that there is ‘oneness’ between practitioner and receiver of Reiki, that energy transcends delineation of forms.

SYMBOL 4- DAI KO MYO (Pronunciation: dye-ko-me-o)

A Beginners Guide to Reiki Symbols

Introduction
Learning to deal with symbols is a key part in Reiki. Many Usui masters believe, however, that the symbols should be kept secret and hidden from the public. I can partly understand this fact when Reiki requires both commitment and faith, which unfortunately lacks many of today’s society.

If you want to learn Reiki a good advice is to place both time and effort in the beginning to understand the basics. With a basic understanding your trip to be a Reiki master will be both exciting and wonderful experience.

In this blog post I´ll discuss some of these Reiki methods in more detail, I will explain the three steps in Reiki teachings and how the symbols are linked to each step. Unlike many Usui Masters, I believe that we should disseminate this knowledge forward. I do feel that our world needs more people who have an understanding of the universe’s healing powers.

How can you apply Reiki in your life?

Reiki is a gentle, simple and natural method, and it’s pretty easy to learn. Reiki practitioners can treat themselves and others. They also know easy methods how to make the body to relax, to release the stress levels, and make faster recoveries. It will increase your health. The energy and the treatment are positive at all levels, physically, emotionally and mentally. One can also make use of Reiki as a precaution activity. This is a method to channel the viability or subtle energy.

Symbols and levels

As with many other skills, the practitioner needs to overcome various degrees in the Reiki knowledge. In order to overcome the difficult practices and symbols requires a basic understanding of the philosophy and ethics of Reiki. But the better you get, you will increase your ability to effectively use the symbols to your needs and lifestyle.

Reiki 1 - Shoden
The first-degree focuses entirely on the use of hand positions and self. You learn how to deepen your connection to Reiki energy, with a meditation methods called: Hatsurei Ho Joshinm Kokyo Ho and Kenyoku.

Reiki practitioners will learn the different chakra-balances called Hatsu Rei Ho meditation. They can be used to heal yourself and animals. You will also learn body treatment methods on how to remove highly toxic areas of the body. The first-degree also introduce you to the basics of Reiki symbols and their impact on healing.

Reiki 2 - Okuden

The second level is working with various types of treatments at a distance. Practitioners that make contact with harmony symbols create harmony between body, mind and thought. The methods are creating more harmony in your life, and remove everything which blockage negative mindsets.

Practitioners learn how to use the power symbol that reinforces the power of Reiki. It is used, for example, when you want to focus more and get stronger effect on your healing. It is also good as protective symbol. You can protect yourself and others with it, and even objects, your home, your car, things and much more. The power symbol also raises your vibration, and makes you more powerful in your healing.

The second level introduces you to the chakra points on your body, for the advanced healing purposes. You will learn Reiki meditation such as Ho Hatsu rei.

Some level 2 symbols are:
Choku Rei, Sei Hei Ki,
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen.
Usui Dai Koo Myo,
Dai Koo Myo
Nin Gid Zida.

Reiki 3 - Shinpiden

The highest level of Reiki is the master grade. It will teach you how to live according to Reiki’s philosophy and to initiate in all phases of Usui system of natural healing. This is the highest degree / level of Reiki, you become a Reiki master.

The purpose of master symbol is to reinforce the other symbols so they become more powerful and increase more energy. In other words, you will get better results when you use the master symbol. When you use this method you’ll notice that some things in your life become better and you’ll become more sensitive to subtle energies.

Advice to help your learning:
In the beginning when you learn these symbols, you can practice to sing them as a mantra over and over again.  Then you can recite, repeat a name symbols for a very long time for you vibrates its energy.

Another advice is to draw the symbols in the air and inside your palm.  Good luck!

If you are serious about learning the importance of Reiki symbols I whole heartily recommend you to buy one, or all, of these books. I have read them and can certainly recommend them.
