Introduction
Learning to deal with symbols is a key part in Reiki. Many Usui masters believe, however, that the symbols should be kept secret and hidden from the public. I can partly understand this fact when Reiki requires both commitment and faith, which unfortunately lacks many of today’s society.
If you want to learn Reiki a good advice is to place both time and effort in the beginning to understand the basics. With a basic understanding your trip to be a Reiki master will be both exciting and wonderful experience.
In this blog post I´ll discuss some of these Reiki methods in more detail, I will explain the three steps in Reiki teachings and how the symbols are linked to each step. Unlike many Usui Masters, I believe that we should disseminate this knowledge forward. I do feel that our world needs more people who have an understanding of the universe’s healing powers.
How can you apply Reiki in your life?
Reiki is a gentle, simple and natural method, and it’s pretty easy to learn. Reiki practitioners can treat themselves and others. They also know easy methods how to make the body to relax, to release the stress levels, and make faster recoveries. It will increase your health. The energy and the treatment are positive at all levels, physically, emotionally and mentally. One can also make use of Reiki as a precaution activity. This is a method to channel the viability or subtle energy.
Symbols and levels
As with many other skills, the practitioner needs to overcome various degrees in the Reiki knowledge. In order to overcome the difficult practices and symbols requires a basic understanding of the philosophy and ethics of Reiki. But the better you get, you will increase your ability to effectively use the symbols to your needs and lifestyle.
Reiki 1 - Shoden
The first-degree focuses entirely on the use of hand positions and self. You learn how to deepen your connection to Reiki energy, with a meditation methods called: Hatsurei Ho Joshinm Kokyo Ho and Kenyoku.
Reiki practitioners will learn the different chakra-balances called Hatsu Rei Ho meditation. They can be used to heal yourself and animals. You will also learn body treatment methods on how to remove highly toxic areas of the body. The first-degree also introduce you to the basics of Reiki symbols and their impact on healing.

Reiki 2 - Okuden
The second level is working with various types of treatments at a distance. Practitioners that make contact with harmony symbols create harmony between body, mind and thought. The methods are creating more harmony in your life, and remove everything which blockage negative mindsets.
Practitioners learn how to use the power symbol that reinforces the power of Reiki. It is used, for example, when you want to focus more and get stronger effect on your healing. It is also good as protective symbol. You can protect yourself and others with it, and even objects, your home, your car, things and much more. The power symbol also raises your vibration, and makes you more powerful in your healing.
The second level introduces you to the chakra points on your body, for the advanced healing purposes. You will learn Reiki meditation such as Ho Hatsu rei.
Some level 2 symbols are:
Choku Rei, Sei Hei Ki,
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen.
Usui Dai Koo Myo,
Dai Koo Myo
Nin Gid Zida.
Reiki 3 - Shinpiden
The highest level of Reiki is the master grade. It will teach you how to live according to Reiki’s philosophy and to initiate in all phases of Usui system of natural healing. This is the highest degree / level of Reiki, you become a Reiki master.
The purpose of master symbol is to reinforce the other symbols so they become more powerful and increase more energy. In other words, you will get better results when you use the master symbol. When you use this method you’ll notice that some things in your life become better and you’ll become more sensitive to subtle energies.

Advice to help your learning:
In the beginning when you learn these symbols, you can practice to sing them as a mantra over and over again. Then you can recite, repeat a name symbols for a very long time for you vibrates its energy.
Another advice is to draw the symbols in the air and inside your palm. Good luck!
If you are serious about learning the importance of Reiki symbols I whole heartily recommend you to buy one, or all, of these books. I have read them and can certainly recommend them.
